The Hong Kong Police have now drawn up

specifications for motor-omnibuses which, it

is hoped, will succeed in excluding American

omnibuses without the necessity for any legal

or administrative action. We nave now to

consider what reply the Foreign Office can

make to the communication from the United

States Embassy received in November last (see

enclosure to No. 10 on 62769).

? copy despatch and enclosures to the

Foreign Office suggesting that if the

Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs agrees,

the letter from the United States Embassy of

the 1st November, 1929, Snould be answered

by saying that after further discussion with

the local authorities, the latter have adopted

and puolished a specification of the type of

motor-omnibus which the Police would be

willing to licence and that the United States

Embassy may rest assured that there will be

no discrimination as between British and

foreign omnibuses so long as they comply with

the specification.
